Self-hosted helpdesk alternative

Stillpoint CRM vs Zendesk

Zendesk is the default enterprise answer in this category, and for large support organisations it usually still is the right answer. This page is for the buyer looking at a per-agent invoice that grows every time they hire, and wondering whether the conversations have to live in someone else's cloud.

The short verdict

Zendesk is a genuinely deep product. Omnichannel support across live chat, WhatsApp, social and voice, a mature AI layer, an enormous app marketplace, enterprise compliance certification, and scale far beyond anything a single WordPress site handles. If you need those, Zendesk is the correct purchase and no self-hosted plugin will substitute for it.

Two things bring people to a page like this anyway. The first is cost structure: Zendesk Suite Team was $55 per agent per month in August 2026 and Professional $115, with the Copilot AI add-on a further $50 per agent per month — so the bill rises with every hire, which is the outcome you were hoping for. The second is data residency: your customer conversations live in Zendesk's cloud, and for some organisations keeping them on their own infrastructure is a compliance requirement rather than a preference.

Stillpoint answers exactly those two points and nothing more grandiose: $299/year for up to five sites with unlimited agents, running inside your own WordPress install with the tickets in your own database — and with the sales CRM, invoicing, WooCommerce order context, work management and marketing automation in the same licence. It has no live chat, no voice, no social channels and no AI layer.

What Zendesk is genuinely better at

This section is not a formality. There are whole categories of requirement where Zendesk wins outright and we would tell you so on a sales call.

Omnichannel is the clearest. Zendesk handles live chat, WhatsApp, social messaging and voice in one agent workspace. Stillpoint does not have any of those — it is email, web form and customer portal. If your customers expect to reach you by chat or phone and have that land in the same queue, Stillpoint is not a candidate.

Then there is the AI layer, which is mature rather than experimental: suggested replies, automated resolution, intent detection and quality scoring. Stillpoint has no AI features at all. The app marketplace is another: hundreds of pre-built integrations, which matters enormously if your stack already has ten systems in it. And for enterprise procurement, Zendesk brings compliance certifications, security questionnaires already answered, contractual SLAs, 24/7 support and the ability to scale past thousands of agents. A WordPress plugin does not compete on that ground.

  • Live chat, WhatsApp, social and voice in one workspace — Stillpoint has none of these
  • A mature AI layer for suggestions, triage and automated resolution
  • A very large app marketplace of pre-built integrations
  • Enterprise compliance certifications and procurement paperwork
  • 24/7 vendor support and scale far beyond a single WordPress site

Cost structure: the bill grows with the team

Per-agent pricing is not unfair, but it does have a direction. Every hire, every seasonal contractor, every colleague from another department who occasionally answers a ticket increases the monthly bill. Teams respond predictably: they ration seats, share logins, or keep people out of the tool who ought to be in it.

The numbers are easy to check. Five agents on Suite Team at $55 per agent per month is $3,300 a year for the helpdesk alone. Add Copilot at $50 per agent per month and the same five agents cost $6,300. On Professional at $115 it is $6,900. Ten agents doubles each of those.

Stillpoint Pro is $299 a year for up to five sites with unlimited agents, and that price also covers the sales CRM, quotes and invoicing, the WooCommerce suite, work management and marketing automation. The point is not that Stillpoint does everything Zendesk does — it plainly does not — but that the number stops moving when you hire.

Data residency: whose server holds the conversations

Support conversations are among the most sensitive records a business keeps. They contain order details, addresses, complaints, health or financial context volunteered by customers, and sometimes attachments nobody intended to send. In Zendesk those records live in Zendesk's cloud under Zendesk's terms, with export available but the system of record elsewhere.

With Stillpoint the tickets, messages and attachments are in your own database on your own server. You choose the host and the jurisdiction, you take the backups, you set the retention, and there is no third-party sub-processor in the path of a customer's complaint. For some buyers that is a preference; for others — public sector, healthcare, legal, or anyone with a data-processing policy that names permitted locations — it is the requirement that decides the purchase.

It cuts both ways, and honesty demands saying so: owning the stack means you are responsible for patching, backups and uptime. Zendesk does that work for you, competently, around the clock.

  • Tickets, messages and attachments stay in your database on your infrastructure
  • You choose the jurisdiction, retention policy and backup regime
  • No third-party processor sits in the path of a customer conversation
  • The trade: patching, backups and uptime become your responsibility

Where Stillpoint adds something Zendesk does not

Zendesk is a support platform; the CRM, the invoices and the store orders live in other systems and are stitched back in through apps. In Stillpoint they are the same database. An agent opening a ticket sees lifetime spend, RFM segment, the specific WooCommerce order with its line items, open deals and unpaid invoices, without a single integration to configure.

That also means reporting can cross the boundary — tickets per 100 units sold by SKU, support load by customer segment, revenue at risk behind open complaints — and support work can turn into a deal, a quote or a project against the same customer record.

When you might pick Zendesk instead

Zendesk remains the better choice in these cases, and we would rather you knew before buying:

  • Omnichannel is a requirement — Stillpoint has no chat, voice or social channels at all.
  • You want AI-assisted support; Stillpoint has no AI features.
  • Procurement needs certifications, a signed uptime SLA and 24/7 cover.
  • You are running a large contact centre rather than a business with a support inbox.

If any of those apply, a $299 plugin is not a serious substitute and we will not pretend it is.

Which one should you choose?

Choose Zendesk if…

  • You need chat, WhatsApp, social or voice in the same queue as email.
  • AI-assisted triage and automated resolution are part of your plan.
  • You need enterprise compliance certifications, contractual SLAs or 24/7 vendor support.
  • Your support organisation is large, or growing beyond what one WordPress install should carry.
  • Your stack has many systems and you need an off-the-shelf integration for each.

Choose Stillpoint if…

  • Email, web form and a customer portal cover how your customers actually get in touch.
  • Per-agent pricing is the problem, and you want the bill to stop tracking headcount.
  • Customer conversations must stay on infrastructure you control.
  • You want the helpdesk to sit on top of the CRM, invoices and WooCommerce orders, not beside them.
  • You would rather one flat licence than a helpdesk plus a CRM plus an invoicing tool.

Where to next

Common questions

Yes, for email and portal-based support. Stillpoint's Service Desk runs inside your own WordPress install with tickets, SLA management, email piping, a customer portal and a knowledge base, storing everything in your own database. It does not replicate Zendesk's chat, voice, social channels or AI layer, so it is an alternative for teams whose support arrives by email and web form rather than a full omnichannel replacement.

On the published August 2026 pricing, Zendesk Suite Team at $55 per agent per month is 5 × $55 × 12 = $3,300 a year for the helpdesk alone. Suite Professional at $115 per agent per month is $6,900 a year. The Copilot AI add-on adds $50 per agent per month, which takes five agents on Team to $6,300. Stillpoint Pro is $299 a year for unlimited agents and includes the CRM, invoicing and WooCommerce suite as well.

No. Stillpoint has no live chat, WhatsApp, social messaging or voice channel, and no AI features. Support arrives by email, web form or the customer portal. If chat or AI-assisted resolution is a requirement, Zendesk is the better product and we would say so directly.

Zendesk stores your tickets and conversations in its own cloud. Stillpoint stores them in your database on your own server, so you choose the host and jurisdiction, set retention, and take the backups. That is a compliance requirement for some organisations and it is documented on our data ownership page.

For most small and mid-size teams, yes — Stillpoint includes a sales CRM with unlimited pipelines, stage probabilities, weighted forecasting, quotes and invoices with PDF export, all in the same $299/year licence rather than as a separately priced product.
